VOLUNTEER!

We are planning a February move to our new location, GrandPaw's Gardens. There will be lots of new volunteer opportunities available both in preparing for the move and ongoing opportunities after the move. Here is a brief description of some of the options available:
1. Volunteering at the Gardens with our Old Friends - Each day will have three, four hour, volunteer shifts between 8am and 8pm. Volunteers will be involved in spending time with the dogs, supervising outdoor play, cleaning and scooping, and other miscellaneous daily activities depending on previous experience. Only one volunteer will be scheduled on any shift. Those who are volunteering with our Old Friends must complete a volunteer training session prior to scheduling a volunteer time. Sessions will be held throughout the month and will focus on Old Friend safety, care and personalities.
2. Volunteering at the Gardens in the Gift Shop - During the weekdays, this will entail helping an OFSDS Staff member to staff and stock the retail store. On weekends, the volunteer will be responsible to interact with customers, explain how OFSDS works and any other questions folks may have and sell OFSDS products. There will be one six hour shift, from 10am-4pm. Volunteer sign up schedules will be posted soon. There will be one volunteer opportunity each day.
3. Volunteering at the Gardens in the gardens. We will have a large memorial garden in the front of the Sanctuary. This garden is filled with beautiful flowers and plants during the growing months. We will need volunteers at that time to keep the gardens clean, weeded and to plant new plants and help with memorials. During the time that help is needed in the gardens, we will post sign up schedules.
4. Home Visits for Potential Foster Families - Potential Foster Families will require a home visit before they can come to the Sanctuary to meet a new family member. We will need folks in various areas of our 100 mile foster radius who are willing to talk with and visit new applicants. Home visit volunteers must have a good understanding of the OFSDS program, so those who have fostered for us are ideal. We will have periodic training sessions for Home Visit Volunteers at The Gardens.
5. Transport from shelters to our Vet - All of the dogs in our program come from Middle TN shelters and must be brought to our vet in Mount Juliet (Village Veterinary Hospital) for their intake vetting. Transport volunteers must have a crate or other safe area in their car for transport.
6. Building and Maintenance, Painting etc - Could be anything.... some of our initial volunteer needs in this area will be painting, putting together donated furniture that comes in pieces and putting cove molding around the interior of the dog room, but there are lots of other jobs to follow.
7. Computer Work from a remote location - There are lots of ongoing computer related volunteer opportunities include monitoring messages and emails, keeping available dog listings up to date and much more. One visit to the sanctuary will be required for new volunteers.
8. Volunteering for special events - We expect to have lots of events at GrandPaw's Gardens throughout the year and will send out emails and sign ups whenever volunteer opportunities in this area become available.
