Update as of Fall 2022: Due to the current state of the economy and supply chain challenges, we have made the decision to postpone the construction of Flo’s Front Porch indefinitely. We hope to bring Flo’s to life one day, so keep an eye out for future updates.
Old Friends Senior Dog Sanctuary is excited to announce our newest branch of exceptional dog care: Happy Even After at Flo’s Front Porch. Fulfilling a need for those who wish to ensure their beloved dogs are cared for when they no longer can, Flo’s Front Porch is the first of its kind perPETual care community in the Southeast specifically for dogs. This world-class neighborhood will feature eleven unique cottages with a true home layout and “pup”-scale amenities.
Each cottage will have three bedrooms with individual yards and indoor/outdoor access, a living room, covered porch, kitchen, and dedicated caretakers. Residents (dogs) will be provided with high-quality vet care and food, on-site grooming, 24-hour supervision, and more. The community will have a trail for year-round outdoor exploration and a water feature for summer fun.
Upon enrollment, each resident will be given the option to live at Flo’s Front Porch for the remainder of their life or have the opportunity to be placed into a forever foster home while still receiving access to all amenities.
More information about Happy Even After at Flo’s Front Porch, including enrollment details, is forthcoming. In the meantime, please see below for answers to FAQs.

MEET FLO
Florence arrived at Old Friends Senior Dog Sanctuary in 2017 after being displaced by Hurricane Irma. She is blind due to retinal atrophy, but it doesn’t stop her from exploring and going on adventures! Florence lived happily at the sanctuary for four years, receiving lots of love and attention from our staff and volunteers, until one of those volunteers decided it was time to give Flo her own family. Flo’s Front Porch is proudly named after this sweet girl who proves that you can still be happy, even after life’s storms.
FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
How can I make sure my dog(s) can be part of Happy Even After at Flo’s Front Porch? What is the cost?
You will need to enroll your dog(s) in advance and pay the enrollment fee to reserve their spot in our program. While the enrollment fee is non-refundable, it will be transferable should your dog(s) cross the Rainbow Bridge prior to coming to live at Flo’s and you welcome another dog into your family. After enrollment, you will need to leave instructions stating your dog(s) has a trust and has been enrolled at Happy Even After at Flo’s Front Porch. If/when your dog(s) eventually come to live at Flo’s Front Porch, the remainder of the program fee will be due from the trust. This fee will be dependent on how many dogs you are enrolling and whether you want them to live at Flo’s for life or if you’d like them placed into a loving forever home.
Can anyone enroll their dog(s)? How old do my dog(s) have to be?
Anyone residing in the United States who wants to ensure their dog(s) are well-cared for when they no longer can (ex. if an owner has serious health concerns that prevent them from providing care, has to move somewhere that dogs are not allowed, or passes before their dog(s)) can enroll their dog(s) at Happy Even After at Flo’s Front Porch. There is no age restriction for your dog(s) to be enrolled.
What is the enrollment fee?
Prior to our grand opening (an “early bird special,” if you will), the non-refundable enrollment fee will be $5,000 for one dog per one room. If you have more than one dog and prefer them to share one room, it will be $5,000 for the first dog plus $2,500 per additional dog (up to 4 dogs depending on size). This fee will increase after our grand opening.
Note that, while it is non-refundable, the enrollment fee is transferable should your dog(s) cross the Rainbow Bridge prior to coming to live at Flo’s and you welcome another dog into your family.
When does enrollment open?
Update as of Fall 2022: Due to the current state of the economy and supply chain challenges, we have made the decision to postpone the construction of Flo’s Front Porch indefinitely. We hope to bring Flo’s to life one day, so keep an eye out for future updates.
If I enroll my dog(s), how will they get to Flo’s Front Porch when the time comes?
We will handle the arrangement and transportation of your dog(s) safely from your location to Flo’s Front Porch.
What care will be provided to my dogs at Flo’s Front Porch?
The trust you leave your dog(s) will ensure they are provided with lifetime, high-quality vet care (routine, specialty, emergency) and high-quality food, whether they are living at Flo’s Front Porch or placed into a forever home.
What else can I expect for my dog(s) while they reside at Flo’s Front Porch?
While your dog(s) lives at Flo’s Front Porch, they will be given residence in one of our eleven cottages. Each cottage has three bedrooms. Your dog(s) will have their own bedroom (unless you have enrolled more than one dog and choose to have them share a room), an individual yard, easy indoor/outdoor access, a living room, covered porch, and dedicated caretakers. There will also be 24-hour supervision, a trail for year-round outdoor exploration, and a water feature for summer fun.
Note that, while each cottage does have three rooms, two of those rooms will have a connecting door so it can be opened into a larger space. If all three rooms are occupied by the same “family” of dogs, or if the dogs in each room get along with each other, the doors to each room will be left open to create one large space. Each yard will also have connecting gates.
What happens if I’m no longer able to care for my dog before Flo’s Front Porch officially opens?
If you enroll your dog(s) and the time comes for them to be placed in our care before Flo’s Front Porch officially opens, they can either stay at Old Friends Senior Dog Sanctuary or be placed into a temporary foster home until Flo’s Front Porch officially opens. They will still receive the same high-quality vet care and food.
What happens if Flo’s Front Porch is at capacity when it’s time for my dog(s) to come live there?
If the time comes for them to be placed in our care and Flo’s Front Porch is at capacity, they can either stay at Old Friends Senior Dog Sanctuary or be placed into a temporary foster home until a room at Flo’s Front Porch becomes available. They will still receive the same high-quality vet care and food.
Will people be allowed to visit the dogs at Flo’s Front Porch?
Those who have dog(s) in our program will be able to arrange visitation with their dog(s). Families of those who have dog(s) in our program will also be able to arrange visitation if the owner is still living or if the owner has made it clear in their will which family members are allowed to visit.
Flo’s Front Porch will not be open for visits by the general public, however there will be volunteer opportunities.
What happens when my dog(s) crosses the Rainbow Bridge?
Upon enrollment, you will be able to choose how you would like your dog(s) remains to be handled after they cross the Rainbow Bridge (ex. cremation, burial). You may also indicate if you would like a custom pawprint memorial or their ashes (if cremated) to be shared with a family member.
How is Happy Even After at Flo’s Front Porch being funded?
While we are investing in the construction of Flo’s Front Porch upfront, this cost and all operating costs will be funded by enrollment fees and trusts for the dogs enrolled in the program.
