Dog Caretaker

We are looking for dependable dog-lovers to work part-time, with the possibility of promotion to full-time, to help care for dogs at our sanctuary.

Responsibilities:

  • Feeding dogs
  • Administering medication
  • Cleaning (LOTS OF CLEANING)
  • General care of the dogs (walking, grooming, calming them down, providing toys, etc.)
  • Monitoring for abnormalities and injuries (and reporting them to veterinary staff)
  • Communicating effectively with coworkers & management

Qualifications:

  • Love for all dogs
  • At least 18 years old
  • Open scheduling availability
  • Dependable transportation
  • Great communication skills
  • Ability to be on your feet for long periods of time
  • Ability to lift and carry 40lbs
  • Ability to pass a background check

Applicant must be able to work any hours between 8am to 8pm, seven days a week, including some holidays. Hours will vary, so we need a candidate with a very open schedule. (Schedules are prepared a week ahead of time.) Applicants must be at least 18 years old and have dependable transportation. Work history and references are required.

Starting pay is $11/hour.
New employees will receive an evaluation and, if appropriate, a pay increase after 90 days.

This is a long-term employment opportunity with plenty of room to learn and grow within the organization. This is NOT a short-term employment opportunity.

Medical Caretaker

We are looking for dependable dog-lovers to work part-time, with the possibility of promotion to full-time, to help care for dogs in our medical wing (dogs in intake, recovering from surgery, extremely limited mobility, etc). 

Responsibilities:

  • Feeding dogs
  • Administering medication
  • Cleaning (LOTS OF CLEANING)
  • General care of the dogs (walking, grooming, calming them down, providing toys, etc.)
  • Monitoring for abnormalities and injuries (and reporting them to veterinary staff)
  • Communicating effectively with coworkers & management

Kitchen Staff

We are looking for dependable dog-lovers to work part-time, with the possibility of promotion to full-time, to help prepare meals and medications for senior dogs. Applicants must be able to pay great attention to detail, be effective communicators, and have excellent memory.

Responsibilities:

  • Preparing meals
  • Preparing medications
  • Feeding dogs
  • Administering medications
  • Cleaning (LOTS OF CLEANING)
  • Recording dogs’ eating habits
  • General care of the dogs (walking, grooming, calming them down, etc.)
  • Monitoring for abnormalities and injuries (and reporting them to veterinary staff)
  • Communicating effectively with coworkers & management

Qualifications:

  • Love for all dogs
  • At least 18 years old
  • Open scheduling availability
  • Dependable transportation
  • Great communication skills
  • Excellent attention to detail
  • Ability to be on your feet for long periods of time
  • Ability to lift and carry 40lbs

Veterinarian

We are seeking a compassionate, experienced veterinarian to join our medical team. This position involves providing comprehensive medical care to the sanctuary residents and the ~ 400 dogs in our forever foster network.

Ideal candidate will have a passion for senior dogs, a strong skill set, confidence, and be a team player.

This is a full-time position with no after hour emergencies. Weekend hours, and on-call for phone consults after hours required. Benefits include paid vacation/holidays, 401k. medical and dental benefits.

Responsibilities:

  • Examine, diagnose, and prescribe treatment of sanctuary dogs and dogs in forever foster network.
  • Act as a liaison for visiting doctors (internist, surgeon, acupuncture, chiropractor),
  • Conduct general surgery including spay/neuter, growth removal, enucleation, dental procedures.
  • Assist with on-site conferences
  • Interest in physical therapy and rehabilitation a plus.
  • Perform euthanasia when appropriate
  • Formulate diet plans
  • Provide training to new employees

Qualifications:

  • 4 years of experience
  • Licensed to practice medicine in the state of TN.
  • Ability to perform surgery independently and complete full medical work-ups.
  • Willingness to work with volunteers.

Veterinarian Technician

The Medical Department at Old Friends Senior Dog Sanctuary is currently hiring licensed veterinary technicians to join our team. The right candidate will have a strong work ethic, be reliable, and work well with the rest of the team.

Responsibilities:

  • Providing compassionate care to the senior dogs in our program
  • Preparing and maintain the exam rooms, surgical suite, and treatment areas.
  • Assisting the doctor in medical, surgical, and dental procedures. Preparing patients for surgery, assist the doctor in administering anesthesia, monitor patients during surgery and recovery, administer fluids.
  • Giving injections and administering oral medications.
  • Providing support to the doctor during emergencies.
  • Restraining animals during exams and procedures.
  • Perform clinical laboratory procedures such as heartworm checks, CBC/Chem and U/A, Draw blood for laboratory analysis.
  • Taking whole body and dental radiographs.
  • Filling prescriptions.
  • Properly cleaning all surgical materials and equipment.
  • Maintaining cooperative relationships with other employees.
